30 April Toronto, Canada The Arts

How to act in the big city again. Traffic, noise, multiple high rises, a way of life Reston doesn’t have. It was fun overall. Began with a tour given by a Swiss woman who has lived in the Toronto area for 40 years. Never could get rid of her accent. City tours are always fun. Get to hear about the history and see different types of architecture, etc.

Our first stop was to the Art Gallery of Ontario, formerly the Toronto Art Museum. It houses a fairly good collection ranging from the Old Masters to Canadians. Impressionists are always my favorite, but the collection was limited. Lots of space was unused. Not crowded, but we were there for the opening and one of the guides stated it would be very crowded later.

We separated from the small group and another couple from New Mexico joined us. The Klimt Immersion was in town and I really wanted to see it. They did also and the tour van driver kindly dropped us close to the exhibit. We pre-purchased our tickets online and were able to go right in. Fortunately, chairs were available. Rick found a good location and we parked there for the next hour. Klimt was flamboyant, controversial and daring. Bold with colors and the subject matter for his art. I think perhaps he was an egomaniac, but gifted and innovative in his artistic way. I was a little disappointed that sunflowers didn’t play a bigger part in the exhibit. We have his sunflower picture framed and displayed in our dining room. Of course, the nudes, “Adele” and The Kiss were repeated frequently. I liked it, but felt the Van Gogh Immersion was longer, more detailed and the production was “tighter” with images and not so much repetition of patterns like the Klimt.

After, we all felt in need of food and drink and found a small pub nearby the exhibit. Of course with all the construction surrounding the whole area, finding the entrance was a puzzle. We all opted for a beer. Rick ordered the special chicken sandwich called the Larry Sammie. The other couple got fish and chips and I ordered my favorite fish tacos. Fish and chips was the best deal.

We couldn’t believe we had spent so much time off the ship. Called for a uber and half of us got in and the driver said he couldn’t take 4. I said let’s get out. He changed his mind. It was crummiest uber ever, duct tape every where and impossible to get to seat belts. The good part was he knew where the port was and the trip was short.

The rest of the day was for taking a break and at 6 Rick and I headed for the Explorer’s Lounge to hear our favorite duo. They rock and I will miss their charm and great voices. Dinner or not? We decided to see what was available and did eat. Glad to then head for our room and call it a night. -
