Today was a busy Sunday with gym, lectures, trivia and a church service. The first lecture was by the ship’s Chief Engineer. Jonny entertained us at the Captains Table earlier this week with sea stories from his long career. Today he provided a very interesting overview of the integrated systems that make life aboard the Octantis so enjoyable. The ship has jail, a morgue, and a well-equipped medical department. Not that any of those are enjoyable, but just to show what our floating city has available. The ship has four engines that generate electricity used to power the electric motors that drive the ship, the air conditioning, the water purification systems, and the wastewater systems. All this by a crew of 29 engineers. The session was attended by both the Captain and Jonny’s number two. Not sure if they were checking up on him or attended to see what they might learn.
Women won again in Trivia. What athletic event relies on a piece of equipment five feet by nine feet?

The second lecture was on the vast geography included in South America. For example, the mountain point on earth that is farthest from the center of the earth is Aconcagua. The east coast of Brazil is closer to West Africa than it is the western most part of the country. The west coast of South America aligns with Orlando, Florida, and the East with the center of Iceland. It should be Northwest America and Southwest America. Who knew?
Church was an hour earlier than last week. Kind of like the time change back home. One of the regular couples showed just as we finished. An instant replay got everyone on the same page.
