19 April Sea Day Seventeen New York, New York & A Weather Delay

Incredible after 43 days aboard, crossing the Drake Strait twice, seven days in Antarctica and stops in Argentina, Uruguay, and the Caribbean we have a weather delay departing New York. We were supposed to leave at midnight, before we left on our evening tour that had already been pushed back to 0800 on 19 April. At 0800 it was announced we had an indefinite delay due to high seas that would make it very dangerous for the pilot to get of the ship at the Ambrose Buoy. At 1000 we left under sunny skies but with a rolling and rocking ship. The delayed departure means we will skip The Cape Cod Canal at Buzzard Bay and Louisburg, Nova Scotia Canada. Viking credited our onboard account $500 for the missed stops.

Cannoli Picked Up In New York

That has continued as I write this tonight. Our cabin attendants gave us barf bags and they have big bowls of ginger candy in all the dining venues. Karla and I are so lucky that it the motion-of-the-ocean doesn’t bother us. During dinner one passenger said, “I don’t think I can sleep if I’m rolling around.” Hopefully exhaustion will win and he’ll drift off.

So today’s sea day activities flowed the gym, lecture, team trivia routine. In what year did Jim Hines set the world record in the 100M dash?
