1 May Port Colborne ,Ontario Birthday Girl

With a late arrival in port, 1230, this was kind of a sea day. It’s hard to call it that when you are cruising in a canal with people waving from the shore, and at times when we looked down from the window all we could see was grass and rocks. After the gym we had an early day of trivia. We teamed with a couple Newport News, VA. Where is Lake Bled? It seems we Virginians are travelers. We won on the tie-breaker. The tiebreaker was to list as many foods that begin with “C.” The other two tying teams list did not stand the scrutiny of the judge and we won a round a mimosas and a happy birthday to Karla.

Our Wake In The Canal

The Celebration Begins

Just before trivia after lunch, Kaghan Halil asked Karla to set her phone up for an AirDrop. The video below was the result. I don’t think she’ll ever forget this birthday.

Off to Niagara Falls with a 10 other buses. This was the only tour offered and because we were docked next to the town’s gravel and sand storage area. The town is building a cruise ship landing on the town side that they hope to have open before the season ends.

It was a 45-minute bus ride with a guide who read from a script. Sort of a live action Hop-On/Hop-Off bus. In wasn’t bad. She had a Canadian accent, a pleasant voice and packed a lot of information into the ride. Our first stop was Horseshoe Falls. There was rain and the mist from the falls, but still an amazing to see. There was also a birthday call from Lucy. We reboarded the bus and drove further down the gorge foe better views of the American Falls and Bridal Falls. We used this stop to add to my T-shirt collection and to sample a Tim Horton doughnut.

The drive back took us through the wine country. Yes Canada has vineyards. They are mad possible by a microclimate created by the “warmer” waters of Lake Erie and an escarpment that directs the southerly winds and moderates the temperature.

A quick change for dinner at Manfredi’s The birthday celebration continued with an outstanding meal, greetings from the chef and staff and a wonderful cake for dessert.
